The mission of the IHS Special Education Service Department is to engage the social, emotional, and academic well-being of learners, while helping students reach their full potential through a comprehensive plan of both academic intervention and resource based service(s), with transitions to building positive student relationships both on and off campus.

Ms. Chicora James serves as the Special Education and 504 Coordinator at International High School of New Orleans. She is an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership. She holds a Master's and Bachelor's level degree in Special Education. Ms. James is trained to provide support, accommodations, modifications, and tests. She supports students through intervention and individualized planning.
Her team includes but is not limited to Pupil Appraisal members such as contracted Occupational Therapist, Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, Speech Language Pathologist, Education Diagnostician and School Psychologist, as well as staff personnel, which include Social Work, Special Education teacher(s) and a Special Education Paraprofessional.
